Mai Lin’s Garden Courtyard creates a small, paved garden between the existing house and a new garden studio. The design provides a gathering space for BBQ’s and a seating platform to catch the morning sun each day.  Recycled brick complements the new architecture by John Ting Architects.

The ornamental planting uses natives and Mediterranean plants, including herbs for the kitchen. The focus is on texture and tone over flowers with burgundy, and glaucus vegetation contrasting the greens. Planting has doubled in the first year of growth and will soon disguise fences  and enhance views of the sky.
